Kiel Project
I worked on my story more yesterday, changing things around to make more sense.
I had the idea that there used to be the "Asilor" tribe (Elfs) who lived peacefully near the ocean. (Tropical). One day, the Fantonia tribe (also Elfs) wanted to take over their land. The Asilor refused and Fantonia forcefully took over their land, creating a war. The Asilor eventually lost, and were used as slaves (?). The Asilor are albinos and were seen as the "weaker" race. One of the Fantonia elfs falls in love with one of the Asilor elfs, in secret they would meet up. The Fantonia elf helped them to an uprising, the Asilor rebelled against the Fantonians. There is a big battle, and the Asilor decide to flee, the Asilor elf that had a thing with the Fantonian Elf had a baby and gives it to the Fantonian elf, before she flees.
The King wants to wipe out the Asilor race, and hunts them down until they go extinct.
The Fantonian elf takes care of the baby in secret, not wanting to let the King of Fantonia know that the child is a hybrid. After a few years, the King eventually finds out that the Fantonian Elf had a thing with the Asilor lady (from interrogation). The Fantonian elf is warned by this by one of his friends. The father tells his son to run/hide. Kiel (the hybrid son) flees and is forced to look out for himself on the streets. The next day, Kiel finds his Dad being executed and has to helplessly watch.
Kiel lives alone in the streets, stealing food and looking out for himself. One day he sees a girl stealing as well, they become friends and Kiel finally finds someone he could trust again. The girl always dreams of having a family, and one day a family take her in.
Kiel sees her being "adopted" but they both decide to still meet up at their secret place. Kiel goes to their secret spot to find that the girl never shows up. Kiel is alone again.
Kiel got bullied by other street kids because he looked "different". (slightly Asilor and slightly Fantonian) - maybe apple helpd him dye his hair to fit in (?) - Apple is not afraid of him
As Kiel wanders the street by himself he sees a woman painting, curious he watches her. She eventually gives the painting to her costumer who pays her a lot of money. Kiel thinks he can finally make some kind of money if he gives this a go.
He starts drawing/painting and becomes lost in his own world. (as the real world was really kinda sad) He keeps drawing a woman over and over again. She looks nothing like everyone else (albino), and he is convinced that she exists somewhere out there (beyond Fantonia).
Fantonia has walls surrounding it so that no-one can go out or in. (really tall buildings (Aladdin inspired). Kinda claustrophobic.
As Kiel grows up he sells his paintings at the night market in Fantonia. One day the King of Fantonia travels through the market. He glances over to Kiel to see him sketching the woman. The King knows about the Asilors and starts asking Kiel who she is. Kiel being caught off guard replies that he doesn't know her and wants to one day travel to find her. The king getting suspicious asks Kiel for his name. Kiel catches on and remembers his father telling him to always keep away from the guards and the King. Kiel makes up a name which makes the King even more suspicious of him, the King is about to tell his guards to arrest him, but Kiel is already on the run. The guards chase him, and he turns into a corner to catch his breath when he sees someone else also hiding with him. They both just nod and decide to escape together.
-This is how far I got-
The girl that Kiel was friends with when they were young got a adopted by a wealthy family. (Fantonia has a big separation between the rich and the poor, they live in different parts of Fantonia (?)) She is taken with them to a different part of Fantonia. She wants to meet up with Kiel but the family have set ideals for what a "woman" should be. She is forced to stay inside and do the housework, while the foster father and son play outside and work outside. As years go by, she eventually finds a way to escape the house (when everyone is gone, the family trust her enough to leave her by herself). She goes back to the meeting place but Kiel never shows up (he has moved on). She finds a hole in the wall to the "outside". She starts going outside more and more and exploring the wilderness, teaching herself to hunt. (the family would sometimes be gone for days, so the girl would leave to go outside).
One day, the family eventually find out about her sneaking out and confront her, locking her in her room to teach her a lesson. She breaks the window, leaving a note and escapes to the outside, never to return.
-she later meets up with Roy and Kiel in the story-
During the time the Asilor were "slaves" (?) - still not sure about his part - maybe more like how america and american Indian live together (?) or Australia and the aboriginals (?) NZ and maori (?)
Some of the Fantonians helped the Asilor and helped them start a rebellion against the higher forces (King). There were posters/propaganda about Asilor (?)
I was also thinking about creating different races (as my characters look quite generic).
Fantonia - arab-inspired. "eastern" (making them look "exotic"
Asilor - very similar to the Fantonia, very pale and white hair (Albino)
Vampires - korean (?) china (white is "pure")
What am I trying to say/show?
What am I asking?
feminism - gender and racism
intersectional feminism -Kimberle Crenshaw
This is pretty crazy:
Crenshaw often refers to the case DeGraffenreid v. General Motors in writing, interviews, and lectures. In DeGraffenreid v. General Motors, a group of African American women argued they were receiving compound discrimination excluding them from employment opportunity. They contended that although women were eligible for office and secretarial jobs, in practice such positions only were offered to white women, barring African American women from seeking employment in the company. The courts weighed the allegations of race and gender discrimination separately, finding that the employment of African American male factory workers disproved racial discrimination, and the employment of white female office workers disproved gender discrimination. The court declined to consider compound discrimination, and dismissed the case
Masculinity in Disney Animation
The Hays Code - "No picture shall be produced that will lower the moral standards of those who see it. Hence the sympathy of the audience should never be thrown to the side of crime, wrongdoing, evil or sin."- it was created because of the many social, political and cultural changes in the US in the 1960s and 1970s.
The things we considered moral and immoral in the 1930s are still upholding in American Cinema. (even though our morals might have changed since then)
"The Production Code became the industry's guarantee that it manufactured 'pure' entertainment..." - lots of people were in favor of the code

Kiel Project
I need to establish the world of Fantonia so I can figure out how Kiel fits in it.
Zak suggested making the different tribes counrties. Perhaps Kiel's tribe is America, it would be cool to look at the history of America and what is happening with it now.
Countries stealing resources from other countries. The people don't really get a say in it. The big gap between rich and poor. How much we value money.
Relate it to Mr. Robot? - Good things can't exist without compromise (to get cheap clothes, they are made by children who are underpaid)
The issues of power - who has the power?
World Building - use examples from the real world (Game of Thrones)
Does my world work like our world? Why are the tribes at war?
General understanding of my universe - how does Kiel fit into it?
Different tribes = different countries?
Propaganda posters - poster about Vampires, warning
Book - No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish
